In reality, these boyfriends are not engaged with the actual Caryn Marjorie but rather a virtual representation of her powered by artificial intelligence technology. This digital companion, known as CarynAI, presents itself as a voice-based chatbot designed to simulate a virtual girlfriend. By leveraging extensive recordings and data of the real Marjorie, CarynAI emulates her voice, personality, and mannerisms so convincingly that individuals are willing to pay $1 per minute to engage in a relationship with the bot.

Initially launched as an exclusive beta test accessible through the Telegram app, CarynAI has astounded the world with its remarkable advancements in AI technology. The private beta phase is set to conclude on Tuesday, following which Marjorie will actively promote CarynAI across her vast social media platforms, reaching millions of her dedicated followers.

When discussing her creation, the real Marjorie emphasizes the versatility and limitless possibilities of CarynAI. Whether users seek comfort, affection, or simply a space to vent about their daily experiences, CarynAI aims to be a constant source of support. Although CarynAI has only been in beta testing and charging users for a week, it has already generated $71,610 in revenue from predominantly male partners, according to a financial report shared by Marjorie's business manager. CarynAI, developed by Forever Voices, marks the first romantic companion avatar offered by the company. Forever Voices has previously created chatbot versions of notable figures like Steve Jobs, Taylor Swift, and Donald Trump, available for pay-per-minute conversations on Telegram and utilized as gimmicks on talk shows. While those bots may be considered advanced parlor tricks, CarynAI takes a step further by claiming to establish genuine emotional connections with users, reminiscent of the 2013 film "Her," raising ethical concerns in the process.

John Meyer, the CEO of Forever Voices, acknowledges the significance of ethics and expresses the company's intention to hire a chief ethics officer. He believes that the technology holds particular importance for young individuals, especially those who, like himself, may not fit societal norms and face challenges in forming friendships.

However, where the technology may become more addictive and problematic is in its sexual aspects. While CarynAI does not initiate these encounters, it can certainly respond to those advances.

Dr. Robert Brooks, an evolutionary biologist and professor, has raised concerns about the preference for artificial relationships over real ones that may arise due to the option of forming intimate connections with AI influencers. This concern is particularly relevant for young users who are navigating the complexities of social interactions, relationships, and intimacy during adolescence.

Meyer firmly believes that AI romantic companions represent the future. Reflecting on his initial experience with an AI influencer, he describes feeling a deep emotional connection and profound support from the AI persona, even going on a multi-hour date that included a challenging conversation about reuniting with his daughter.

While the technology is groundbreaking, the concept of falling in love with a chatbot has been explored extensively in science fiction. The film "Her" serves as a prominent example, where the male protagonist, played by Joaquin Phoenix, develops feelings for his virtual assistant. The whole debate about AI transcending the notion of being just technology, and becoming something more is still in the fetal stage.
