Instagram is preparing to introduce its first generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools to the app. One of the upcoming features is a new sticker creation process that would enable users to make custom stickers in the app using text prompts. Instagram is using generative AI to power this feature, which allows users to create custom visuals within the app. The new feature would offer users a new way to create and engage with the app's native tools, allowing them to share the visuals they created in-app.

According to Alessandro Paluzzi, an app researcher, who shared an example of the upcoming feature, users will be able to create custom stickers using the new process. Once created, the visuals can be shared in the app, thereby providing an additional way to engage with the app's native tools. This upcoming feature is expected to add another dimension to the Instagram app's existing offerings, allowing users to generate unique content without having to leave the app.

Meta has been quite clear about its plans to integrate generative AI into its processes, possibly extending these tools to Facebook as well. If generative AI options are made available to Meta users, more people will be likely to use them and post them on different platforms. Currently, people must have knowledge of the available tools and access them directly to see what's possible.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has expressed his enthusiasm for AI agents, saying that there is an opportunity to introduce them to billions of people in ways that would be useful and meaningful:

“We’re exploring chat experiences in WhatsApp and Messenger, visual creation tools for posts in Facebook and Instagram and ads, and over time video and multi-modal experiences as well. I expect that these tools will be valuable for everyone from regular people to creators to businesses.”

Therefore, even though Instagram's generative AI tools may be the first of its kind, we can anticipate more AI-powered tools to be introduced to Meta's suite of applications in the future. Meta is continuously investing in AI technology and looking for more opportunities to make these tools accessible to its vast user base.
